In 1981, she began a career as a national park professional in Denali National Park, Alaska, and over the next 23 years her National Park Service work immersed her in some of North America's most spectacular and beloved places, including Yellowstone (three times), Washington D.C., Everglades, Mount Rushmore, and Pearl Harbor.
